São Tomé - Treasure of the Atlantic

Sao Tome

São Tomé is a small tropical island in the Atlantic Ocean, close to Gabon. Discovered in 1470 by Portuguese navigators, this cone-shaped volcanic island that culminates in the 2,025-metre Pico de São Tomé offers dramatic landscapes of torrents and waterfalls, black and white sand beaches, sheer sea cliffs, tropical forest and extensive cocoa plantations.

Together with the island of Príncipe, São Tomé forms one of the smallest independent nations in the world, located some 220 kilometres off the western equatorial coast of Africa. São Tomé combines well-developed infrastructure with rich flora – 700 species including a hundred orchids – and fauna – birds and marine turtles – of which many species are endemic.

On the white sandy beach at Lagarto, 1.5 km from the picturesque town of São Tomé, you will find a stylish boutique hotel: the Omali Lodge Luxury Hotel. Omali, meaning ‘ocean’ and ‘source of life’, is the perfect spot from which to explore the natural and cultural wonders of the island!

Príncipe - Jewel of Africa

Sao Tome

The tropical island of Príncipe is a virtually undiscovered paradise in the Atlantic Ocean, north-east of São Tomé. It’s a place where dense rainforests teem with exotic birds, where whales sport playfully off unspoiled, deserted beaches, where crystal-clear waterfalls cascade into the azure blue ocean, and where the people are, above all, friendly and happy to meet you. In short, Príncipe is a sensational place to relax, dive, fish or turn adventurous.

Príncipe’s extraordinary landscape, an irregular scattering of soaring volcanic peaks, is 70% covered by primary forest where up to 20% of trees, orchids and birds are said to be endemic. It has still been barely touched by the island’s 5,000 inhabitants or the outside world.

On the northern shore of Príncipe lies the exclusive Bom Bom Island Resort, offering luxurious accommodation in staggeringly beautiful natural surroundings.

Truly extraordinary destinations for the passionate traveller, these islands are only 7 hours from Europe!
