- Immerse yourself in the splendour of Loango National Park on the Rembo Ngowe River
Immerse yourself in the natural splendour of one of the remotest parts of
Loango National Park, on the Rembo Ngowe River, where the dark waters
containing manatees and hippos are lined by thick forest, inhabited by
elephants, red mangabeys, buffalos and smaller mammals such as sitatunga
(swamp-dwelling antelopes) and red river hogs.
In the heart of this inhabited tropical rainforest and wetlands, you will find Akaka Bush Camp. The only way to reach the camp is by a spectacular
66-km, 2-to-4 hour boat trip from Loango Lodge, leaving the world and all
its worries behind, and allowing you plenty of time to capture the essence of Gabon.

- The classic jungle feel of the Mpivié River
Your Loango experience can either start or finish with a trip on the Mpivié River, whose dark waters are typical
of the many small rivers that drain the coastal lowland forests. Fringed by a
tangle of swamp forest, this river has a classic ‘jungle’ feel to it. A number
of very rare bird species seldom seen anywhere else are often sighted along
its banks including Pel's fishing owl, African finfoot, Hartlaub's duck and the
white-crested tiger heron. On sunny days, slender-snouted crocodiles can also
be seen basking on overhanging branches. The boat ride brings you to the charming settlement of Evengué Lodge.
"Africa's Last Eden" Tour
- Explore São Tomé's volcanic coastline
Experience a full day at sea on a trip around the island to explore São Tomé’s volcanic coastline : deserted and secluded beaches, waterfalls falling into the sea and amazing rock formations. We shall pass by Rolas Island and stop for a picnic and snorkel at Praia Vanha. We then continue along the West coast to the bay of São Miguel, only accessible by boat, now abandoned and part of the Obô National Park. Our trip ends with incredible sunset views from the Savannah coast.

Kayaking on Principe
On the island of Príncipe, Africa's Eden offers kayaking trips for both beginners and those who have more experience.
- Let our guides introduce you to kayaking on the calm water around Bom Bom
Depart from Bom Bom Island Resort and let our guides introduce you to kayaking on the calm waters around Bom Bom Island, then kayak out to the ruins of the old church from the first Portuguese settlement on Príncipe 400 years ago. You can then hop from beach to beach up to Praia Sundi and visit the Marapa turtle programme in season and if you’re lucky even witness a few dozen baby turtles being released. You then retrace your steps back to Bom Bom.
From Bom Bom follow the coast east to the two fishing villages of Praia Companje and Praia Borra, where you can disembark and learn a bit more about the relaxed lifestyle of the Angolares people of Príncipe as they go about their day to day chores. View a dugout canoe being made, nets being repaired or the drying and salting of the day’s catch, or take some snorkelling gear to explore the reef between the two fishing villages.
- Paddle out to the idyllic beach of Praia Banana, Principe
For the more experienced, paddle out to the idyllic beach of Praia Banana or the beautiful bay of Baia Das Agulhas where you can enjoy a picnic lunch followed by some snorkelling between the huge volcanic boulders. On the way back, visit some of the fishing villages.
