Whale-watching at Bom Bom

From July to October humpback whales (Megaptera novaeangliae) visit the waters around Bom Bom as they migrate from their low-latitude summer feeding grounds to more tropical mating and calving areas.


Whale-watching at Bom Bom, a breathtaking experience

Luckily for us, humpbacks are the most acrobatic of all whales and often engage in spectacular aerial behaviour (breaching, lob tailing and flippering). A day spent amongst these gentle giants provides a powerful and unique experience. Dolphins, turtles, sea birds and schools of different fish can also be seen.

Some visitors have even spotted whales from the restaurant area of Bom Bom!

Seasonal activity: from approximately mid-July to mid-September / October
The trips, aboard one of our motorised pirogues, take between 2 to 3 hours, depending on how far out the whales are. Boat charters (on a 28-ft speedboat) for whale watching are also available.
We only recommend this trip during peak season and although sighting rates at Bom Bom Island Resort are close to 100%, still, sightings cannot be guaranteed.
Reservations for whale-watching can be made at the reception of the hotel upon arrival. The price of whale-watching is not included in the package price of Bom Bom Island Resort.
