Journalists and filmmakers that come to Gabon need to obtain a permit before arrival.
The procedures to obtain the permit are as follows:
- You first have to send by post a formal letter in French to the Gabonese Ministry of Communication; include the company, how many people, when, the aim of the filming, where it will be screen; and address it to "Secretaire General" of the Ministere de la communication.
- It is advised to have somebody in LBV to check whether the request has been received and how long the process will take.
- Once you have their permission, you need to write a formal letter in French to the Ministry of the ANPN (park management authority) with a copy of the permission of the Gabonese Ministry of Communication.
- In both requests, you need to describe the company, the objectives that the company has in Gabon, the kind of publicity it will generate for Gabon, and the identity of all the crew members and manager of the crew need to be included.
- This process takes a minimum of 1 month.
- Note: the government of Gabon may require you to submit a copy of the film/documentary in French or with French subtitles for educational purposes in Gabon.
