Fishing is an expensive sport that requires precious holiday time. We feel it is important to advise anglers wishing to visit Bom Bom Island Resort for its great billfish opportunities to visit during the peak season:
- May to September for the marlin season
- September to December for the sailfish season.
In January and February, the sea conditions are fantastic and diving is outstanding, but fishing does go through a dip.
Fishing Season at Bom Bom
| Fish species |
Season |
| Atlantic blue marlin |
May to mid-October, with July to September (locally known as the Gravanna) being peak season. Fish have been caught in all year round though, for example in March 2006 a 1000-lb fish was caught. December and January regularly produce a run of smaller fish in the 300-lb range. |
| Atlantic sailfish |
Peak season runs from September to December with mid-September to mid-November normally producing the best results. Sailfish can also be commonly caught from late March to August. |
| Yellowfin tuna |
Difficult to pinpoint when these fish start appearing around the island but great fishing has been had as early as February and March. Large fish, however, seem to be most consistent from May to October. |
| Wahoo |
These can be caught year-round, but are more predominant during the Gravanna season as well as during the height of the sailfish season from September through December. |
| Dorado |
Most predominant from May to September, although some years these continue being caught well into December, January and even February. |
