The tropical island of Príncipe is one of the world’s least explored and most exciting Big-Game Sport Fishing destinations.
Target the elusive large blue marlin and world-record size sailfish that have rightfully made the area so notable, as well as a vast variety of other game fish such as yellow fin tuna, wahoo, dorado, snapper and barracuda, amongst many others.
Rich fishing history, excellent fishing conditions
Fishing forms a very important part of the resort and it is this activity that helped the resort to establish a short but rich fishing history. In 1992 the first bill fish competition was hosted by the resort, with teams from Angola and South Africa taking each other on. A total amount of 44 bill fish was caught between 4 boats fishing three and a half days. In 2004 a total on 21 sailfish was caught by one boat fishing for 3 days. Bearing in mind that fishing all over the world is declining, it is remarkable that the fishing around Principe remains the same, if not improving from season to season.
Fish species
The waters around Principe are home to many fish species, with Atlantic Sailfish being the prime target, as this species reaches sizes bigger than normal around this area.
